The painting juxtaposes two worlds: on the left, the city or politics of the past; on the right, the city or politics of today, that is, modernity. In the centre, the act of copulation, identical from one era to the next, gives the work its title.

The two skies are treated separately, one in purple, the other in green, and placed side by side.
