Clairvoyant Tree

Kees van Willigen · 1915–1990

Date

1967

Medium

Oil painting

Size

66 x 90 cm

The painting has a strong Surrealist signature: bushy foliage surrounds eyes, and the tree’s underground life is visible. A moon and a bird complete the composition.

It is read as an ecological tribute to the living tree, answering the one paid to the Dead Oak of La Lichière, in the Ardèche.
