Horses at the Watering Hole

Oil painting

The painting shows several horses at a watering hole: each is identifiable, and the scene records the hierarchy within the group.

The dominant mare, Tichou, drinks first. Mandarine comes forward unhindered, Ninon keeps her distance, and the stallion Sultan waits until the end to drink alone.
