Tree with the White Goat
Kees van Willigen · 1915–1990
- Date
- 1966
- Medium
- Oil painting
In this 1966 painting, the tree takes up an imposing place. The white goat can be read as the white flag of caprine freedom. Balls of tender foliage give the image of an explosion of spring vegetation.
The almost pointillist style is only a phase in his work: from his initial figurative style, Kees van Willigen went through surrealism and cubism, then a touch of pointillism, before finding his own figurative expression, which he described as intuitive.
